ABOUT THE EDWARD HOLT TRUST
The Edward Holt Trust operates across Greater Manchester. Its principal activity is maintaining Holt House in Didsbury, which provides accommodation for older people with limited means. The 13 flats at Holt House are managed in partnership with Great Places Housing Group.
In the last ten years the Trust has sought ways to have a more strategic impact on disadvantaged people in the area by assisting a number of homelessness projects with capital funds and other support costs.
The Trust originated in a 1955 endowment from Sir Edward Holt, owner of Manchester's Joseph Holt brewery. The family continue to maintain an interest in the work of the Trust, with Richard Kershaw, a Great Nephew of Sir Edward and Joseph Holt’s Chief Executive, serving as Chair.
In March 2020 the charity converted to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with a new charity registration number, 1188344. The charitable purposes remain the same. The formal transfer of assets took place on 1 April 2021.
