Case Studies

Here are some examples of the organisations and projects that the Trust has supported.

For four years the Edward Holt Trust has given financial support to the Maggie’s Centre at Manchester’s Christie Hospital. Specific support has been to fund a Benefits Adviser to help people experiencing the financial and housing worries that a cancer diagnosis can bring.

The Edward Holt Trust has paid for an Advice and Development worker with the Salford Citizen’s Advice Bureau. In one year alone, the service helped 426 clients notably with issues concerning welfare benefits. Other areas of need were legal matters, immigration, housing and debt. More recently the service has responded to growing demand for food and energy advice.

Salford Loaves and Fishes is a charity that has worked for many years to combat homelessness and poverty in their locality. However by 2016 their work was significantly restricted by a lack of facilities from which to work. The Edward Holt Trust worked with the charity to source suitable premises and eventually found a former health centre in an especially challenged part of Salford. The Trust purchased the building and re-modelled it to enable it to be the long-sought base from which a wider range of services is now provided.

Contact is a Manchester-based charity that provides accommodation and practical support for homeless teenage girls from the Manchester area. The Edward Holt Trust has given financial support over 3 years to its “Moving On” fund. This helps young people - who are getting ready to move into their own independent accommodation – with advice, support and practical help.

Justlife is a charity addressing hidden homelessness by providing health, housing and wellbeing support to people living in temporary accommodation. As part of the Manchester arm of Justlife’s growing outreach programme, the Edward Holt Trust provided a specially adapted minibus that is now used as a mobile drop-in centre.
